College Intern Program
The Indianapolis Zoo's Intern Program offers a
unique opportunity for college students and
recent graduates to become actively involved in the Zoo's conservation, research, education and recreation efforts. Interns
can enhance their
knowledge and experience in the
many areas, including zoo and aquarium sciences, nonprofit
management, communications, marketing, conservation education
and
more! Internships, when coupled with a bachelor's degree, can be the
key to gaining employment at zoos and aquariums. Internships are currently available to
students studying within the United States only.
Most positions are offered year round and can take place in one
of three sessions: winter/spring (January-April), summer
(May-August), and fall (September-December). Typically,
interns work 20-40 hours per week for a minimum of 12
consecutive weeks, depending on the position. Intern positions are experience-based
and are therefore unpaid. Housing and transportation are
the responsibility of the intern, although the Zoo can assist in
the arrangement of such services if requested.
Application packets will not be considered if received after the
following deadlines. Typically, applications are considered two months prior to the
deadline, and offers may be made to candidates before the
deadline. If you are interested in an internship this year, don't wait! The deadline is the last-chance cut-off date.
